How Big is Your Golf Budget?

without comments

Used Golf EquipmentHow much do you spend on golf equipment? What specific pieces should you purchase? Of course, a lot depends on whether you are just starting out or you have been playing for years. Zeroing in on the amount you should spend may mean asking yourself some tough questions.

Why are you playing golf?

Is it because you want to play at least twice a year with your business partners and you do not want to feel left out among their circle?  Or is it because you are genuinely interested in playing as much as possible.

It is impractical to spend a lot of time and money selecting the best golf clubs if you only get to use them once or twice a year.  Buying what lines up with your goals makes your shopping easier, plus it will probably save you some money.  Be realistic about your wants and your needs.  By identifying your goals before you actually go out there to shop, you make it easier for yourself to select the kind of equipment you should buy.

How dedicated are you to playing golf?

How much work are you going to put into developing your golf skills? How much do you plan to practice?  For how long?  Are you planning to take golf lessons?

The basic question is how dedicated are you?  If your answer is an ambiguous “not much”, it is probably best that you buy the kind of clubs that are less costly.  But if your answer is a resounding “truly dedicated!”, then you probably ought to set your budget higher and look for the better quality equipment. You wouldn’t want your playing to suffer because of what you purchased.

Should you buy new or used golf equipment?

Although it always feels great to buy shiny new stuff, this might be a time to look for some used clubs or sets. It is difficult to know from the beginning exactly what will feel the best for your style of play. By purchasing some used clubs you can establish a reference point without spending a huge amount of money. Once you feel how clubs perform in your hands, then you’ll know if you need to make adjustments in size, composition, etc. You can almost always find excellent deals at eBay.
